Reviews Overview

Most Liked

The standout feature at Hyssop And The Hare is its commitment to quality. Diners rave about the diverse menu filled with locally sourced ingredients, emphasizing fresh flavors in every dish.

Many reviews highlight the small plates, which encourage sharing and trying multiple flavors—ideal for food enthusiasts. The tomahawk steak is a crowd favorite, praised for its tenderness and rich taste, making it perfect for a romantic dinner or a hearty meal with friends.

Guests also appreciate the cocktails, which perfectly complement the food. The friendly and attentive staff add a personal touch that elevates the dining experience, making everyone feel welcome and appreciated.

Most Disliked

While the overall experience at Hyssop And The Hare garners high praise, some guests note that prices can be on the higher side, with an average of about £30 per person. This might not suit every budget, particularly for frequent visits.

Limited availability on busy weekends may lead to a wait for table service, which can be frustrating for those eager to enjoy their meals. Additionally, as the restaurant is quite popular, certain dishes may sell out by peak times, which can be disappointing for diners wanting to try specific items on the menu.

A few guests mention that the cozy atmosphere can feel intimate, which may not suit larger groups looking for a more boisterous dining setting.

High quality, fancy as well as luxurious place. From the outside it seems like a casual place but once you walk in you see and feel the exclusive side of it. The staff treats you with as a valuable customer and looks after you. While we were waiting waiter offered us homemade crumpets which is a plus for the restaurant. The food tasted outstanding a specially a dessert. It’s a perfect place for a lovely date or take someone for a special meal. Prices wise you would be looking at around £30 per person. Overall, I would definitely recommend this place and it deserves the 5 stars.

We came for a meal a couple of days ago on Wednesday Steak night - Lovely restaurant, great for a cosy couples meal out The starters were great and just the right size, really good range of cocktails to choose from and very nice! We went for the tomahawk steak cooked rare and it was amazing! The fat was like butter and the cut was tender and the prefect size for two - Will be going back

Amazing food and a great service. It’s small tapas like dishes, so if you’re in the mood to try lots of different things then this is the right place for you (between two people you’ll need roughly eight or so plates). Definitely try the prawns, they are out of this world tasty. And they also make great cocktails!

This is our go to place for a great dining experience. From the moment you walk through the door nothing is too much trouble. Absolutely love the small plates menu which has a fantastic mix of vegetarian, meat and fish dishes. The cocktails are to die for and the wine list is comprehensive. I can't wait to go back.

Was recommended to attend by a chef who had dined there before hand. Charming confident staff, great atmosphere and a fine selection of small plates foods with locally sourced Derbyshire fine meats, fish & vegetables. A real winner and worth the drive out to try it certainly. Will book again soon. Hope they rotate the menu after a few months to keep it interesting.
